Parliament of Ghana Parliament of Ghana

After a marathon of requests, Parliament will reconvene today. This announcement was made in a notice issued on December 2 and signed by the Speaker of the House.

“Pursuant to order 58 of the standing orders of the Parliament of Ghana, I Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, hereby give notice that the seventh meeting of the fourth session of the eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic shall commence on Monday, the 16th day of December 2024 at ten o’clock in the forenoon at a place to be appointed by the speaker in due course.”

It follows an earlier request by the Leader of the NPP Caucus Alexander Afenyo-Markin to reconvene Parliament on November 28 and 29 to address pressing matters.

However, Speaker Bagbin had maintained that parliamentary activities would remain suspended until after the December 7 general elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered its heaviest defeat in last week’s parliamentary elections since 1992.

Additionally, the seating arrangements in the House will change after January 6, 2025.

After the December 2024 polls, there have been security concerns across the country. Catch Etsey Atisu's interview with security analyst, Adib Saani, on Election Desk on GhanaWeb TV below:
