Parry and Co launches Teachers Welfare fund

Accra, Nov, 17. GNA-Parry and Co, a food manufacturing company on Saturday launched a fund which seeks to reward hardworking teachers in the country, especially those in the deprived area. To this effect, the company which produces "Teacher Mackerel," among other food items has set aside a seed amount of 60 million cedis for the project and had appealed to all companies and all well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute their quota to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.

Speaking at the launch of the programme, Mrs Angelina Baiden Amissah, Deputy Minister of Education Science and Sports said that by this initiative, the company had given meaning to the government's belief that the private sector was the engine of growth and also typified the complementary role of government and business. She commended the company for honouring teachers by naming a product after them and more importantly earmarking part of their profits to support them.

She pledged the support of her Ministry for the success of the programme and appealed to all companies to emulate what Parry and Co had done.

Mr. Daniel Twumasi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said in the determination of the award winners, the company would partner with the Ghana Education Service and also use their criteria for their selections.

He said, two years after the implementation of the programme, it would be reviewed for the necessary changes and improvements to be made. The CEO said the award ceremony would take place twice in every term and appealed to all companies and individuals to contribute towards the fund to ensure its sustainability. He lauded all teachers in the country for their contribution towards the enlightenment of the society and added that what the company was doing was an initiative meant to expresses appreciation to them. Mrs Dorothy Twumasi, founder of the company presented a plaque to Mrs Angelina Baiden Amissah in appreciation for teachers' contribution to the nation.
