Party Agents complain of neglect and hunger at registration centres

Agents of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the voters’ registration centres in the Ho Municipal area on Monday complained of neglect and hunger.

Some agents of the two parties at Takla and Tokoe Motee near Ho told the GNA that they have not been provided with any food or water.

They alleged that party officials who visited them only once, did not bring them anything.

Mr William Anyomi, NPP agent at Takla near Ho said he and his colleague were feeding themselves, but commended the Ho Central Youth Organizer and the First Vice Chairman of the Party for providing them “some small rice from their own resources.”

Mr Delali Markson, NDC agent at a registration centre at Tokokoe Mottee said he brought a bag of sachet water from the house to sustain him and his colleagues throughout the day.

They said Party Agents needed to be motivated, given the tedious nature of their assignment.

Mr George Kofi Boateng, Volta Regional Secretary of the NPP said the Party had made adequate provision for its agents and that the Party was paying each Agent GHC 5.00 daily.

Mr Boateng said the Party also advised its parliamentary candidates to provide food and water to the Agents.

“In general, we are very comfortable with the way everything is going,” he added.

Mr Hope Nyavedzi, Volta Regional Deputy Youth Organizer of the NDC described the complaints as unfortunate, saying arrangements had been made to take care of the Agents.

He said the Agents were given some amount of money after their training.**
