Ghana turned 46 years on Thursday 6th March 2003 . And to celebrate this great Occasion, Ghanaba and JAM Promotions put on another excellent show on Saturday the 8th March at SE One Club in the heart of London . The party attracted over 2000 partygoers who turned out in a mixture of formal and traditional outfits.
In the run up to the big day, the biggest black urban radio station Choice Fm 96.9 in London ran several competitions about Ghana and its history. Winners to the competition had a chance to win great prizes, including 1.5 millions Cedis from main sponsor Western Union , Clothing vouchers from DNZO Int. and Beauty Treatment at Emmanuel Hair Salon.
SE One Club is based directly beneath London Bridge Station and is big enough to hold 3000 people, so it was the ideal place for the celebration said head of Ghanaba and JAM Promotions Dennis Tawiah (Radical D). Many people arrived early to avoid queuing. But with so many people with and without tickets, it wasn?t long before the queues started to grow. To be on the safe side the promoters made sure security was extra tight to avoid any trouble.
Making sure everyone enjoyed this celebration the organizers arranged two separate arenas with lighting and stage decorated with Ghana flags and banners of the main Sponsor Western Union.
Arena #1 was dubbed the Hi Life Room. Warren MC and DJ FIRE troubled the microphone while the DJ line-up looked fearsome with the likes of DJ Alordia & Skoobie, Big L (Leslie) and 2nd II None.
First artist on the night was Candy Man who performed a few tracks to get the party going. To build the vibe in Arena #1, DJ Skoobie, Big L (Leslie) played the freshest R&B sounds followed by One of Ghana?s finest DJ Fiffi Pratt from Glenn?s night Club who made a special appearance by entertaining the crowd with a mixture of Hi Life and Hip Life from various Ghanaian artists.
Tension flooded the stage when Both MC?s FIRE and Warren MC requested for 5 ladies from the crowd to join them on stage to dance. They got more than they bargained for with 9 Ladies rushing the stage. A dancing competition started. All 9 ladies were determined to win, When the music started the place was electrified as the crowds blow their whistles and cheered on the ladies as they whined their waist and danced to great African Classic like ?Sweet Mother?. The ladies were kept on the stage to dance with new Hi Life sensation Adane Best. He performed his Chart topping hit ?Maafio?.
Star of the show ? Sidney ? (pictured) from Nananom performed two tracks including the controversial ?Abushkeleke? from his latest album. Before leaving the stage all the ladies received goodie bags from Western Union .
One of the MC on the night introduced by DJ ?FIRE? ?Terry Bonechucker? (pictured) hardly known to many Ghanaians in the UK. He came onto the stage dressed in a political suit made out of wax print with one leg in shorts and the other long trousers. He amused the crowed with singing, rapping and serious comedian style of dancing.
Arena #2 was dubbed the R&B room. Hosted by French Kiss feat Sir K (Nana) and Exhale Sounds. The End, Dizzy Rascal and Dem Lott Crew all performed their chart topping hits while Blacknights, Raw Flava, Get Rich Crew, OTP and East Connection all had their chance to rock the crowd with non stop H&G, RnB and Bashment.
The host in arena 2 educated the crowd by telling them 46 years ago Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to Independence . The crowd made plenty of noise and from that point the DJ?s knew exactly which tunes to play to get the people dancing. Many people couldn?t decide on which of the arena?s to stay in. So people shuffled between arenas to get the most out of the performing artists and the great music.
The head of the promotional team Dennis Tawiah (Radical D) definitely chose the right venue. Enough space for everyone to move, large cloak area, excellent security who kept peace throughout the night and even a food stand selling mouth watering Ghanaian dishes such as Kenkey and fish, Jollof rice, chicken and kebabs.
Several Independent parties took place on the same day in and around London . This was one amazing night with over 2000 partygoers at London Bridge SE One Club who didn?t want to go home when the party finished around 5am .
Head of the Ghanaba and JAM Promotions team Dennis Tawiah (Radical D) has already started on his next big function ?Mr & Miss Ghana 2003? which he says will take place August bank holiday weekend. There were many beautiful Ghanaian Ladies at the SE One Club and headed of the selection team Mavis Osei and Rosemary Agyemang were busy searching for contestants to take part in Miss Ghana (uk) 2003.
Dennis Tawiah (Radical D) thanked all the Major sponsors and his team and said next year will be even bigger. So look out.
