Passengers face problem at airport

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA - There was total confusion at the check-in area of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday night, as it became apparent that hundreds of passengers scheduled to fly Ghana Airways could not make the journey.

This situation is the result of airlines inability to clear the backlog, created as a result of the cancellation of the Accra, bound flight from New York on Friday.

The passengers were dismayed at the airlines failure to fly them to New York and Baltimore to enable them to continue to their various destination.

Most of the passengers were workers and students who were returning to base to resume their duties or continue their studies and describe their ordeal as "a raw deal".

The passengers did not even know their fate during the coming days, as no official of the airline was available to explain issues to them. A number of passengers that Ghana News Agency spoke to appealed to the government to endeavour to find solution to Ghana Airways problem, to enable it to live up it's position as "Africa's Friendly airline" A Ghanaian resident in New Jersey, Naana Hammond noted that it was not worth being nationalistic by flying with Ghana Airways because the airline staff do not show concern about such mishaps, "as there is always a delay or cancellation of it's flight".

Professor Richard Severin of City College in New York said he has been visiting Ghana since 1999 and expressed his frustration, noting, "it has become an annual ritual with Ghana Airways anytime I am returning home'

Another passenger, Alfred Hinneh, also resident in New York, expressed his rage, saying, "I will lose my job if I fail to get back to New York tomorrow."
