Pastor Held For Kidnapping

A 28-year-old Pastor of the International Power Fire Chapel at Darkuman in Accra is in the grips of the law for allegedly kidnapping a 10 -year- old boy.

The suspect, Emmanuel Adjei, was said to have lured the boy from a playground at Darkuman to his house at New Gbawe, a suburb of Accra.

Briefing the Times in Accra yesterday, the Odorkor District Police Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare, said at about 3 pm on December 27, 2010, the boy went out to a nearby school park at Darkuman Official Town to play but did not return home.

He said Pastor Adjei in the company of another man now at large, lured the boy to Abeka Lapaz in Accra and bought him clothes and a pair of sandals. He also gave him soft drink and a piece of cake after which he took him to his home at New Gbawe. He locked up the boy in his room at about 11 pm and went out.

Superintendent Asare said at 1 pm the boy woke up shouting and banging on the door for help and a tenant in the house went to his rescue by breaking the door.

He slept with one of the tenants until morning when he was accompanied to his house at Darkuman. He said a complaint was lodged with the Odorkor police, and the pastor was arrested the following day, December 28 when he returned home. He has since been granted police enquiry bail while investigations continue.
