Business magnate and President of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has urged Ghanaian entrepreneurs and business owners to endeavor to fulfil their legal obligation by paying their taxes to the state.
According to Dr. Nduom, governments over the years across the globe have proved to be unsuccessful in running efficient, lucrative and lifelong businesses, adding that businesses are better off run independent of governments.
Speaking at the Power Talk series organised at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra, Dr. Nduom noted that governments often pursue businesses which refuse to fund their political activities under the guise of invading tax.
“This is not about NPP or NDC or PPP. If a government doesn’t like you, they usually check if you’ve paid your tax. If you don’t pay they use that as an excuse to grind your operations to a halt. So all entrepreneurs must meet their tax obligations. Pay the government its tax and stay away from them,” Dr. Nduom urged.
Being an entrepreneur or a private business person in Ghana, according to Dr. Nduom, has not been an easy path.
He stated, “we have seen successes and failures just as we have seen attempts to encourage and other times discourage.”
Dr. Nduom, who was speaking on the theme: ‘How to be successful,’ recounted his humble beginning as an entrepreneur, and strongly stressed on the need to remain disciplined, especially in resource disbursement.
“As an entrepreneur you must clearly distinguish between your personal resources and that of the company. Don’t use what belongs to the company to satisfy personal needs,” the celebrated Ghanaian entrepreneur asserted.
