Payments to KELNI GVG: Communications ministry engaged in theft – Franklin Cudjoe

President of IMANI Africa President of IMANI Africa

The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has questioned the Communications ministry’s payment of $1.5 million every month (since 2018) to a reclusive entity for claiming to prevent stealing by telcos.

To him, the payment to this entity is questionable because, regardless of the payment since 2018, there has not been any report published on the findings and savings made by KELNI.

Franklin Cudjoe describes this decision to pay KELNI every month as “incompetence and theft.”

His comments come on the back of advocacy for the reduction of data prices in the country.

To him, it is very questionable that data prices haven’t been raised since 2023, but the Ministry of Communications keeps piling taxes on data.

“Data prices haven’t been raised by telcos since November 2023. Yet, the Ministry of Communications keeps on piling taxes on data (60% increase). Meanwhile, it is killing the telecom industry with utterly despicable rules while literally stealing from the same revenue.

Did you know the Minister of Communications, per the KELNI GVG contract, pays $1.5m every month (since 2018) to a reclusive entity for claiming to prevent stealing by telcos? Meanwhile, there has not been a single published report of the findings and savings made by KELNI. Incompetence and theft!” he said in a post on social media.
