Peace Corp presents computers to school

Apeguso (E/R), Nov 23, GNA - Miss Kim Owen, an American Peace Corp, has presented 21 computers and accessories estimated at 216 million cedis to the Apeguso Secondary School, in the Asuogyman District.

Miss Owen who is a Computer Science and Mathematics teacher at the school said she was touched by the students' sudden interest in the two subjects and decided to help consolidate the development.

She described mathematics and science as "the bedrock" for sound economic takeoff and stressed the need to enhance the capacities of the youth in these areas.

The Peace Corp said she was collaborating with some American NGOs to support the school with teaching aids and books.

Mr A B Abankwa, Headmaster, thanked Miss Owen for the gesture, which he said had come at an opportune time to whip up and sustain the interest of the students in the study of the subjects and to keep the school abreast with modern trend.

Dr Yaw Akoto, a Petrol-Chemical Engineer and a citizen of the area, presenting four split air conditioners to be installed for the computer library appealed to the people to support the school to make it a centre of academic excellence in the study of computer science.

Meanwhile, Mr Dwamena Bekoe, MP for Asuogyaman, has presented 10 street light bulbs to the town.

Mr Owusu Boadu, Assemblyman for the town thanked the MP and appealed to him to use part of his share of the common fund to support the completion of a six-classroom JSS block and a library.
