Peace Council: National dev't plan will prevent 'winner take all'

The National Peace Council says they are keen on meeting with President John Mahama and other key stakeholders to discuss the need for a national development agenda for the country.

Although there have been numerous calls for electoral reforms after the 2012 Presidential Election Petition, Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, believes such reforms must go with a holistic development strategy.

"Look at the United States for instance, there is a national plan that they follow and it doesn't matter [who becomes President] ", he told Joy News' Elton John Brobbey.

Rev. Prof Asante also believes a national development plan will prevent the much denounced "winner takes all" phenomenon in Ghana's politics.

The National Peace Council has already met with Nana Akufo-Addo, 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on the issue, where he (Akufo-Addo) pledged his support for the plan.

The President is currently in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
