Peace Council calls for peaceful NDC congress

Sunyani, July 6, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional Peace Advisory Council, has urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure that the party's congress, in Sunyani, is held in a peaceful atmosphere.

The Council stressed that the congress could be peaceful provided the elections would be done based on democratic principles of transparency, freeness and fairness, devoid of intimidation.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Suallah Abdallah Quandah, Secretary, and released to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday in Sunyani.

The statement said the leadership of the party had the responsibility to guarantee that 93everything is made possible for the congress to be peaceful", adding: 93If the congress is peaceful it will be a credit to the NDC".

It expressed the hope that all structures and logistics had been put in place for a successful and violence-free congress because without that, Ghana's democratic credentials would not only have been compromised and its image as one of the most peaceful countries in the West-Africa sub-region would be dented, the statement added.

The Council wished the NDC a non-violent and a very successful congress.
