The National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sammi Awuku has said the National Peace Council’s decision to remain mute over the insults against NPP running mate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia by the deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho is a huge cause for concern.

According to him, he expected the Council to be swift in condemning the act to avoid a response from the NPP which will contribute to the building of tension in the political space less than two months to the crucial December 7 elections.

Koku Anyidoho has in the past few months launched a sustained attack on the person of Dr Bawumia calling him a liar, claiming he failed to provide an iota of evidence to back his allegation of over 76,286 Togolese nationals on Ghana’s voters register.

The former Presidential Spokesperson has vowed to torment Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who’s a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana if he fails to produce his list of 90% of Togolese on Ghana’s voters roll.

Addressing a rally of NDC supporters in Kumasi on Saturday, Koku Anyidoho stated that Dr Bawumia is a dishonest politician who has made lying his stock in trade and should not be rewarded with the second most highest office of the land.

He further described Dr Bawumia as “Mutum Banza” a Hausa expression used to describe a person who cannot be used for anything meaningful. In other words, “Mutum Banza” means “a useless person” or “a nonentity.”

But speaking on Peace FM Tuesday, Sammi Awuku stated that the NPP may be forced though reluctantly to launch a scathing response to attacks against its leaders even as the party wants to run a clean campaign ahead of the elections.

“The NPP will stick to issues…yes fair and sqaure, but the NPP as a political party will defend and stand by our two people, our Flagbearer and Running mate and any leading member who becomes a punching bag for the NDC. Because the election, I didn’t need the Ecnomic Intelligence Unit (EIU) to confirm that the NPP is winning this election convincingly because I have gone to the grounds, and done my research. A place like Hamile, was unfriendly to the NPP, it was a though the NPP was a passing disturbance anytime we went there, but today the people rush to come and receive you. If you listen to the generality of the citizens it is clear that they are fed up with the Mahama-led government and are going to vote the NPP into power.”
