Pencils of Promise (PoP), a Non-Governmental organisation with focus on education has re-roofed the Sokode-Ando Municipal Assembly School after rainstorm ripped-up its roof in April, this year.

The re-roofed three-unit classroom block with other ancillary valued at GHC45, 000 was handed over to the community through the Ghana Education Service (GES) after a short ceremony.

Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director, PoP, said his outfit prioritised access to quality education especially for children which informed their decision to rehabilitate the school.

“The education of the over 115 pupils cannot be left in limbo, hence the support,” he said.

Ms Victoria Sallah, Headmistress of the School commended PoP for being the “heartbeat” of the school in providing quality Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) to both pupils and teachers and responding to their plight "once again."

The Headmistress said through the generosity of Pencils of Promise the school could boast of state-of-the-art e-readers, a library in a box project, handwashing stations, a newly built washroom facility and teachers support workshops among other incentives.

She pledged to put the facility and all TLMs provided them to good use to improve on the school’s academic performance.

Mrs Jessie Akama, Administrator and Finance Officer, Ho Municipal Directorate, Ghana Education Service, commended Pencils of Promise for its contribution and promotion of quality education in the country.

She asked the community to maintain the classroom blocks and not be reliant on project partners for support for maintenance.

The about ten-minute rainstorm displaced 200 people in the farming community, ripping up 38 houses, including; the three-unit classroom block built by Pencils of Promise and the community in 2015.
