People of Bawku pledge support for president Mills

The Chiefs and people of Bawku in the Upper East Region have pledged their support for president John Evans Atta Mills and his government for their role in keeping and promoting peace in the area.

The people said they had realized that peace was the only tool that could save them from their woes and since government was putting in much effort to ensure that, they would rally behind the government to enable it to achieve its aim of developing the area.

They noted that, President Mills and his government, had fulfilled the Better Ghana Agenda promise in all sectors, especially health and education, saying the National Democratic Congress (NDC), together with some developmental partners, was doing a lot for which the chiefs and people of Bawku would forever be grateful.

The Chiefs and People made the pledge during a two-day outreach programme by the Upper East Regional Minster, Mr Mark Owen Woyongo at the weekend, to the municipality and its environs to inspect and commission major ongoing and completed projects, including health facilities, roads, markets and schools.

Mr Musah Abduliah, Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku noted that it was heartwarming to recall that in 2009 government recognized that the restoration of permanent peace in Bawku rested in the hands of the people and facilitated the establishment of the Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee, charged with the responsibility of working to establish permanent lasting peace in the area.

Mr Abdulia said with support from developmental partners, the Assembly had constructed seven health facilities in the municipality at a cost of GH¢530,933.95 and was currently sponsoring five medical students in the various universities. It had also renovated several offices at a cost of GH¢488,581.13.

He disclosed that the municipality had taken delivery of 75,000 mosquito nets to be distributed to communities to reduce the malaria menace.

He said the Assembly had extended electricity to thirteen communities including, Gingande, Bawkzua, Sabon-Geri, Tinsungu, Nyorigu, Natinga, Baribari, Bador, Zuli and Atuba.

Mr Woyongo underscored the need to give the NDC government a second chance, come the general election in December, because it was committed to initiating more developmental projects in the area.**
