Person with disabilities urged to welcome government new policy

The District Chief Executive for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Hon Joseph Owusu has urged Person with Disabilities (PWDs) to embrace the new policy introduced by the government.

He said the Nana Addo led NPP government is committed to transforming the lives of Person with Disabilities.

To this end, he said under the new policy, the PWDs will be provided working tools and equipment including freezers, sewing machines, corn-mills, pop-corn machines, barbering tools, welding and carpentry machines, shoes markets kit, hair dryers, spraying machines, bee and grasscutter tools, poly tanks and water hose without giving them a physical money so that they can establish their own businesses.

“We believe this move will help provide employment, alleviate poverty and economic empowerment for our people with disabilities for that matter we are urging them to embrace this new policy with enthusiasm,” He said.

Hon. Joseph Owusu popularly known as (Odenkyem) said this when the District Assembly presented items included tricycle popular know as Aboboyaa, corn mills, knapsacks, sprayers, deep freezers, head dryers, popcorn machine and others to the Person with Disabilities(PWDs) within the sekyere Afram Plains district at Drobonso the district capital on Thursday, 7th June 7, 2018.

“This form part of our plans to meet the Person with Disability (PWDs) to outdoor the fund we created for the PWDs to avoid any controversy like the previous time when the PWDs don’t have knowledge on how their fund was been used. We thank President Nana Addo for the new policy that will provide employment, alleviate poverty and economic empowerment for our people with disabilities. Am also grateful that the PWDs are glad for what we have given them” he added.

For his part, the chairman of the association Mr. Atia Abraham on behalf of the members expressed gratitude to the District Chief Executive, the District Assembly and the NPP government for the support given to them and pledged to take good care of the items.
