Petitioners did not plead for re-run of 2012 elections - Amaliba

A member of the legal team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims nowhere in the pleadings of the petitioners in the on-going election petition suit before the Supreme Court did they ask for re-run of the elections nor plead that Nana Akufo-Addo be declared the next President of Ghana.

According to Lawyer Abraham Amaliba of the NDC, the reliefs that the petitioners are seeking is rather to annul over 4 million votes; pointing out that they (petitioners) only indicated that they will welcome any other orders that the Supreme Court may give in its ruling.

Speaking on Okay FM, he pointed out that the Court however has the authority to grant a relief on a case when there is no clear pleading by any of the parties.

He was of the view that if the court rules for a re-run of the 2012 election, the election will be conducted between President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo who were the two leading candidates; adding that the seven other candidates will be exempted from the race.
