Phinas Pharma Limited, a leading name in pharmaceutical innovations, distribution and marketing, has responded to the drug shortage challenge, currently facing the Accra psychiatric Hospital.
The response was in a form of donation of assorted medicines and food items to children patients at a cost of about GH¢ 2, 000.
The items included, Phinacold Junior Syrup, Toilet Rolls, Rice, Gari, boxes of Juvita and Kalypo fruit juice.
It was recently reported that shortage of drugs used for the treatment of psychiatric and psychotic illnesses was hampering efforts of medical personnel to treat cases related to mental health, thereby crippling the operations of the hospital.
In an interview with this reporter after the donation, Freda Bonifacio, General Manageress of Phinas Pharma limited disclosed that management decided to exercise their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) soon when news reached them of the challenges facing the hospital.
She explained that they being in the Pharmaceutical industry makes it easy for them understand the difficulties that emerge during medicine shortage in hospitals such as the Accra psychiatric hospital.
“We decided to come support the hospital because we believe all the burden should not be left alone for government. The people here can be our relatives, so making a donation for them is in the right place”, Mrs. Bonifacio pointed out.
The General Manageress disclosed that the company has taken it up on themselves to follow up on the hospital’s essential needs and make a donation at least twice a year.
Principal Nurse of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Madam Beatrice Nyarko, after receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, acknowledged that the items will go a long way to help them in their crisis.
A very appreciating Madam Nyarko said they do not often get such donations, hence the gesture done them by Phinas Parma came at the right time.
She stated that the recent shortage of drugs to calm the psychiatric patients calm down has caused nurse to be hospitalized from the beatings she suffered from one of them.
She appealed to other philanthropists to emulate the gesture by Phinas and also government to do all necessities including signing their LI for them to get their monies to run the hospital because they are really suffering.
