Phone- Ins Can Be A Threat To Security

Mr. Ben Ephson, the Editor of the “Daily Dispatch”, has cautioned that unless there is a form of control on listener phone-ins especially on the radio, they could be a threat to Ghana’s peace and stability this election year.

He said “I belong to the school of thought that one of the media threats to 2004 election campaigns is likely the uncontrolled listener phone-ins, mainly after newspaper reviews”.

He made these comments in a presentation at the 55th Annual New Year School on January 2, 2004 on the topic, “The media role in meeting expectations of the 2004 Elections”.

The theme was a Decade of Constitutional Rule in Ghana: Critical Issues Facing the Nation.

He suggested that radio stations who want to embark on any form of live phone ins, should acquire technology which enables such inflammatory statements to be eliminated before they hit the airwaves.
