Mrs Rig Stewards, the Headmistress of the Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO) has reminded parents that the Ghana Education Service (GES) laws on banning the use of phones by the SHS students was still in force.
According to her, students could face summary dismissal when caught using mobile phones in school.
Mrs Stewards made this known when she addressed her maiden Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at school at Agona Swedru.
She admonished parents to advice their wards against the use of mobile phones in the school, since apart from affecting their studies, it created disturbances and breeds discipline.
The headmistress therefore warned that any students caught with a phone will be dismissed from the school.
She expressed concern that some students secretly use mobile phones, especially in the dormitory at night disturbed colleagues who might either be studying or sleeping.
She assured the parents that all policies and Programmes instituted by her predecessor, Mrs Leticia Agnes Hawkson currently on transfer to Mfantseman Girls Senior High School would not be changed.
The Headmistress called on the parents to continue to help improve the academic performance of the students, adding that 2015 WASSCE results was good but needed to be improve upon in 2016.
She said the school authorities would strictly charge government’s approved fees.
According to the Headmistress the school needs more structures to accommodate all the 100 tutors at the School, adding that only 30 of them are staying on the campus.
She stated that this would however not promote indiscipline at school.
Mr Kwesi Acheampong, Chairman of PTA called on the parents to pay their contributions promptly to support developmental projects being undertaken by the Association.
He said the PTA has fenced the school as part of the efforts to curb encroachment on the school lands.
