Physical education must be made examinable - NGO suggests

Donyina (Ash), Sept 2, GNA - The Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have been asked to make physical education (PE) an examinable subject to generate interest of the youth in physical exercises in school and also unearth their hidden sports talents at their youthful lives.

Madam Nancy Aku Sika, Caterer and President of Vision Association, a Sports NGO based at Donyina in the Ejisu-Juaben District, who made the suggestion explained that the unearthed sports potentials of the youth needs to be tapped and exploited since most of them show lack of interest in physical exercises and PE in schools.

She said PE was not attracting any enthusiasm and the seriousness it deserves because it is not examinable.

The President of the Association who spoke to the GNA Sports in an interview, said the seriousness and interest attached to PE in schools is the surest way to harness sports potential in the youth adding that it has the advantage of improving the health of the youth and assisting them to earn a living through sports.

She called on women to reduce their intake of fatty and high cholesterol foods to minimise the risk of breast and other cancers as well as cardio-vascular diseases.

Madam Aku Sika had already organised 100 women to embark on two-hour daily walks for one month.
