Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has directed Ghanaian female artistes, Joyce Blessing, and Eshun, who have both been denied access to their social media handles by their managers to immediately seek legal redress in court.
In an exclusive interview with www.ghanaweb.com, he stated that they both share equal rights to those platforms with their managers.
Eshun and Joyce Blessing are no longer in possession of their various social media handles and YouTube channels after breaking apart with their managers who doubled as their romantic partners.
But Mr. Ampaw reacting to the issue has described both managers as abusive.
He has therefore advised the artistes to quickly put an injunction on their managers to prevent them from having access to those social media platforms.
“I don’t see why the manager will deprive his artiste the right to own the social media platforms. All those females involved should seek legal advice and redress in court and place injunction on their mangers from having access to those social media platforms and for denying them access to it," he stated.
He added, it is their work that drives attention to these social channels and as such, have every right to access it even after break-up.
“Most at times these media handles have the names of the artiste or brand. In the case of Joyce Blessing, who knows her husband? It’s Joyce blessing’s works that drive traffic and attention to these handles and therefore he cannot deliberately take control and deny her access to them,” the lawyer said.
Background
In the case of Joyce Blessing, challenges in her marriage affected her music career due to the fact that her marriage was associated with her music business because her husband was her manager.
The Ghanaian gospel singer has exited Dave Joy Productions, a record label she owns with her husband.
Joyce, who is currently promoting her latest single, ‘Y’endanase’, stated that she had created a new YouTube channel (Joyce Blessing Unbreakable) where the new music video she recently uploaded had also been reported by her husband and flagged in the process.
Eshun on the other hand recently stated in an interview that her manager cum boyfriend logged her out and changed all the passwords to her social media accounts after their break-up.
Her manager on the other hand is asking her to make available an amount of GHC120, 000 to have all the accounts back.
