Kumasi, Jan. 13, GNA - Mr. Frank Adu-Poku, Ashanti Regional Police Commander and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) has cautioned Police Personnel against the pursuit of unconventional means of acquiring wealth.
He said this was very important because, if they are not careful, they will be exposed and made to face the full rigours of the law.
Mr Adu-Poku was speaking at a welfare meeting organised by the Regional Police Command on Wednesday in Kumasi to review the activities of the past year and to strategise for the years ahead. The meeting was attended by personnel from all the police units, districts and divisions throughout the region.
The regional commander stated that the police administration would defend personnel who work within the confines of the law and therefore urged them to learn and abide by the laws of the land and police regulations and procedures.
He said, "it is not right for the people to suffer unduly in the hands of the very persons who have sworn to protect them". Mr Adu-Poku urged them to eschew illegal acts such as extortion, mounting of unauthorised road-blocks, bribery and corruption, unlawful arrests and detention of suspects.
He noted that the police cannot work effectively without the support of the general public and stressed the need for them to work harder to win the confidence and trust of the people. The Regional Commander commended them for their wonderful performances before, during and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Police personnel also praised Mr Adu-Poku on his recent promotion from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to DCOP.
