A senior Police officer, Chief Inspector Addai, stationed at Dompim Pepesa a town in Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality of the Western Region, has been accused of stealing roofing sheets meant for developmental projects in the town.
He has been ordered by the Traditional authority to leave the town with immediate effect for insulting the chiefs and elders after he was confronted concerning the whereabouts of the lost roofing sheets.
Secretary of the Dompim Pepesa Traditional Area, Ameshi Awisi, in an interview with Kasapa News explained that the leaders of the town purchased roofing sheets for the Community Centre which was under renovation and kept them close to the Police station.
He added that few days later, they got information that eight packets of the roofing sheets had gone missing, a check was made and it was established that indeed some could not be accounted for, following which the elders made a report at the police station.
“We later made an announcement about the missing items at the town’s information centre and threatened to search for the perpetrators in our own way. Moments later, some young men who are carpenters rushed to the Chief to inform him that they had something to do with the missing roofing sheets, adding that they will confess as they feared dying. They claimed that Chief Inspector Addai gave them the sheets to roof a shop which is alleged to belong to his girl friend.
“Armed with this information, we decided to go with the young men back to the Police station as we had already lodged a complaint there in order for the guys to help with investigations. When we got there, to our surprise, Chief Inspector Addai upon seeing the young men started raining insults on the Chief and the elders, saying he’s so powerful and nothing can be done to him.”
The Chief and his elders have lodged a complaint at the District Police Command to have Chief Inspector Addai removed from the area, as they cannot guarantee his safety if he should continue to stay in the town.
Kasapa News, called up Chief Inspector Addai to respond to the allegation against him but he declined, saying all questions should be directed at the District Police Commander.
