Bawku (U/E), March 16, GNA - A 30-year-old woman, Hawa Seidu, who allegedly caused the death of her rival has been placed in police custody at Garu near Bawku.
The suspect was alleged to have hit the head of the deceased, Mamata, with a mallet while she breastfed her three-month old baby, resulting in her death.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police David Sampana, the Municipal Police Commander, said both the suspect and the deceased lived with their husband, Hamidu Amoaning, in the same compound at Basyonde near Garu.
Last year, their husband cultivated an onion farm and instructed them to take care of the farm as he was engaged with other businesses in Bawku.
Hawa, who was the senior wife, refused and Mamata worked on the farm alone.
"When the onions matured, the deceased realized that Hawa had begun harvesting so she confronted the suspect over the issue and this resulted in a heated argument between the two women," Mr Sampana said. Family members separated the two women and when all appeared to be over, Hawa took a mallet and hit Mamata at the back of the head. She was taken to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital but died four days later
