The Attorney General’s Department has advised the Central Regional Police Command to charge a police officer stationed at Assin Fosu in the Assin Central Municipality of the Central Region, with Extortion after police investigations into accusations of bribery found him culpable.

The Police stated that the officer G/Sgt Augustine Owusu Ansah, was seen in a video which went viral in May this year, negotiating payment and receiving money at a drinking spot from some individuals who had engaged in cyber-crime and narcotics.

Sergeant Ansah was also boasting in the viral video of his ability to free criminals who were arrested by his colleagues during operations after they had paid some cash to him.

He said, "Police work has always been in favour of criminals who were in the position to bribe the Police to facilitate their smooth operations."
