Many find it mindboggling that in the midst of scarcity, a completed and well furnished police station would be abandoned by the Ghana Police Service as criminals get field day at Parkoso in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
This is because residents have not been able to raise money to build accommodation for the police personnel who would be posted to the station, TV3’s Benjamin Aidoo has gathered.
Whilst the facility sits there empty, the people in Parkoso and its environs are living in total fear and panic as robbers take advantage of the situation to engage in their nefarious activities day and night.
The Parkoso police station like that of Buoban was inaugurated on 30th November 2016 by the then Ashanti Regional police Commander, COP Kofi Boakye. He was assisted by the Member of Parliament of Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and the former Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Nuru Hamidan.
The project was initiated by the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly with funding from the District Development Facility [DDF]. The move was to help address security problems in Parkoso and its environs.
The absence of a police station in one of the fastest growing peri-urban areas in the Asokore Mampong Municipality has become a source of worry to the elders and residents in the area.
The Chief of Parkoso, Boakye Amponsah Okroforban III, in an interview with TV3 appealed to the Inspector General of Police to make use of the newly constructed police station to safeguard peace in the area.
He noted that as the situation stands, residents of the area feel unsecure, fearing a possible attack by robbers.
