The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command, has appealed to the public to provide information about the whereabouts of a suspected armed robber who escaped while on admission at the Sunyani Regional Hospital.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incidence when contacted by the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Sunyani.
He said on Monday, May 2, at about 1930 hours, Kwaku Yeboah, 22 and his accomplice now at large attacked a trader at her shop at gunpoint and succeeded in taking her handbag containing GH¢2,500.00 at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abesim, near Sunyani.
ASP Tawiah said the robbers packed their motor bike at a distance from the shop and after the robbery jumped on it to run away.
He said unfortunately for the robbers an 18- year old young man who saw the incident raised the alarm that brought out residents of the vicinity to chase and arrest Yeboah while his accomplice managed to escape.
ASP Tawiah said the residence beat Yeboah mercilessly and she became unconscious before they called the Police to the scene.
He added that because of his condition Yeboah was rushed to the Sunyani Regional Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
He said Yeboah who was on a 24 hours Police guard managed to escape from the Hospital on Thursday May 5, at about 2300 hours, leaving the handcuff hanging on the bed.
ASP Tawiah said the Police Constable who was guarding the suspected robber at the Hospital has been given a 10-day ultimatum to find the suspected robber, or would be charged for negligence.
He said efforts are being made by the Police to arrest both Yeboah and his accomplice from their hideout.
