Police arrest 3 armed robbers in the Ashanti Region

The Nyinahin District Police Command has arrested three (3) suspected armed robbers at Appiakrom.

The suspects are Dramani Seidu 24, Richard Bromyiwa 25 and Joseph Gyimah alias Agyaku 24.

They were involved in an armed robbery incident that took place at Asanayo forest on the Afepaye-Nyinahin trunk road on Monday, January 15, 2018, around 4:30 am.

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Fred Adu Anim briefing the media said the suspects wielding two (2) single barrel guns, laid ambush at the Asanyo forest, fired and stopped a driver in charge of a 207 sprinter Beng passenger bus with registration number WR 844-X on the aforementioned date and time and forcibly ordered him to stop, which he obliged out of fear.

According to DCOP Adu Anim, the three suspected armed robbers at gunpoint then ordered the driver and the passengers out of the vehicle to lie down.

They subsequently robbed the driver and the passengers of an unspecified amount of money and over twenty (20) mobile phones after that the suspects bolted into the forest.

He added “a search in their rooms revealed two single barrel guns, two BB cartridge, One AAA cartridge, twenty assorted mobile phones, seven wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, cast amount of One Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Ghana Cedis (ghc 1,350.00), one lighter, a torchlight and sachet of tramadol capsules.

All the three suspects admitted the crime in their caution statements to police and are currently in custody assisting in investigations. Meanwhile, the victims have identified all the three suspects as their assailants and have identified the mobile phones that were robbed from them during the robbery.
