The Western Regional Police command has arrested three persons who were onboard a cargo truck carrying 92 bales of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Police personnel on duty at the Apremdo barrier intercepted them on Tuesday at about 10:am.

A total of five persons including the driver were on board the Tarwka bound DAF truck with registration number AS 5138 – 11 that was carrying assorted goods.

The truck, which was travelling from Accra, was stopped at the barrier for routine checks during which the bales of the suspected narcotic drug were discovered. Each bale contains about 80 compressed slabs.

The occupants upon Police discovery of the substances immediately took to their heels, the Police confirmed to 3News.

With the help of civilians around, the Police managed to arrest three of them –Kwaku Quansah , Francis Ackah and Ali Amadu.

The driver and one other however managed to escape, according to the Police.

The suspects and the vehicle have since been handed over to the Western Region Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) for further investigations.

Western Regional Police Public Relations officer DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku said efforts are being made to arrest the driver whose name was given as taller and the other suspect, Yaw Kojo.
