Accra, Aug. 4, GNA - Police have arrested two employees of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Axim in the Western Region in connection with the leakage of this year's Senior Secondary School Certificate Exams.
They are Peter Nuako Kosi Assonyo and Bernard Arthibah, who are suspected to have leaked the papers to two students of Adisadel College in Cape Coast.
Police has also questioned a number of students. Mr Patrick Ampewuah, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police, who confirmed the arrests to the Ghana News Agency said the two had been sent to court while Police investigations continued.
The leakage, which was said to be widespread in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central and Western Regions involved schools like Mfantsipim, Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, Adisadel College, Saint Mary's Secondary, University Practice Secondary School and Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Others are Swedru Secondary School, Swedru Business Secondary School, Ghana Secondary Technical School, St John's Grammar School and Bompeh Secondary School.
The leakage was in Elective Maths 2; Literature in English 2; Business Maths; Costing; Physics 2; Economics 2; History 2 and French 2. Mr Ampewuah said when the leakage was detected by West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) officials they started their own investigations, which led them to their Depot at Axim. He said it was discovered that security bags containing the yet to be written question papers had been cut open and the subjects papers stolen.
The Deputy Director said upon investigations it was revealed that the Police had earlier requested the two officials to bring the questions papers to be kept in Police armoury but they refused. He said most of the students arrested with the papers had been released by the Police while investigations continued.
