The driver of a police bus has been arrested along with the vehicle he was driving after he knocked down and killed a motor-rider in Accra.
According to a report by Jacob Kubi, a reporter with UTV, the accident happened on the morning of Wednesday, October 30.
In his narration, the police bus driver decided to use the opposite lane of the road in an attempt to beat the traffic and that was when he collided with the rider, killing him on the spot.
“Just this morning, the rider was headed in the direction of Accra, from Nsawam, and because there is heavy traffic on that stretch, the bus driver decided to use the opposite lane leading to Nsawam. So, when they got to Zongo Junction at Abeka Junction, by the time the police bus got to where the rider was, he was unable to maneuver his way out of the lane of the bus, while also ensuring that he did not run in front of the other cars in that lane.
“The police bus too was unable to stop at the moment and so it knocked the ‘okada’ rider. As I speak with you now, the ‘okada’ rider has lost his life, and the police bus has been arrested by the MTTD policemen around there and sent to the Tesano Police Station. So, the bus driver and the police bus have been arrested and the motorbike has also been sent to the same police station,” the reporter said.
