Police arrest young man for allegedly killing father

A 28-year-old man Kwaku Gyato who lived with his parents, has been arrested by the Bekwai police for allegedly killing his 80-year-old father.

He was said to have clubbed Enyaawado Gyato, popularly called Paa Gyato to death over food.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bekwai, eye-witnesses said on that fateful day, the suspect on his return from town demanded food from his mother, Maame Gyato who gave it to him.

They said, however, that Kwaku Gyato on getting the food grew furious and complained that the food was not nutritious and that it deserved to be given to dogs.

According to the eye-witnesses, this resulted in a scuffle between the mother and her and son and that the scuffle became so intense that Paa Gyato who was in his room came out to separate them.

As soon as the suspect saw his father he told him "you are the one I have been looking for", and consequently got hold of a piece of firewood and clubbed him until he collapsed and died shortly after being rushed to the Bekwai Government hospital.

The eye-witnesses said the behaviour of the suspect surprised people who were attracted to the scene by the cries of Maame Gyato but they ran for their lives when he (suspect) became uncontrollable.

After committing the crime, the suspect continued to hang around the house until the police arrested him, they added.

When the Bekwai police were contacted, they confirmed the story.
