Two female sports journalists -- Rashidatu Kadiri of "At lantis Radio" and Dorcas Oparibea of "Top Radio" -- were recently assaulted by a policeman in Ghana, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), said in a communique on Sunday. The incident, according to MFWA, happened on 11 February at the 'Ohene Djan Sports Stadium' in Accra while the journalists were busy covering a mid-week league game between Accra Hearts of Oak and Ashantigold.
Kadiri told MFWA that the policeman discriminated against them by not allowing them access to the players, even though they produced their identity cards.
The policeman allegedly grabbed Oparibea's breast and pushed her to the ground. Kadiri was also reportedly shoved to the ground.
Accra Hearts of Oak's team manager, Sabahm Quaye, later condemned the act of the policeman and said the matter would be investigated and recommendations made to the appropriate police command.
