The Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, March 19 commissioned five new divisions to boost personnel visibility in the country’s capital.
The new divisions bring to 49 the total number of police divisions in the country.
There are currently 199 district stations with 697 stations across the country.
The new divisions – Cantonments, Airport, Odorkor, Adentan and Amasaman – were created from the Kpeshie, Nima, Kaneshie, Madina and Tesano divisions respectively.
“Let me emphasise that we are relying on initiative and drive of officers to kick-start the proper functioning of 32 new police divisions, districts and stations that have been created throughout the country,” said Inspector General of Police Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan during the commissioning.
Among the police stations elevated to district stations are East Legon, Anyaa, Sowutuom, Ashaley Botwe, Darkuman and Pokuase.
There are 17 police posts in the country.
