The Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have charged three suspects, who reportedly attacked the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Eric Opoku, with causing damage and harm.

They are Kwame Acheampong, aka I. K Acheampong, Amos Asare, aka Anointing and Richard Asare, who was arrested yesterday.

The other two suspects were arrested on 1st April 2018 and were all transported to the Regional Police Headquarters in Sunyani.

According to police sources, their backgrounds are still being investigated to get their right names since the police suspect they might have declared wrong names.

Speaking to the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong, said they were supposed to be arraigned before a Magistrate Court yesterday but due to the ongoing investigations they would appear before the court today.

Meanwhile, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah- Cheremeh, who is also the head of regional Security Council, has tasked the police in the region to act without fear or favour, saying ‘the law is no respecter of persons.”

It would be recalled that some hooligans from Sankore in the Asunafo South Constituency last Sunday attacked the home of Eric Opoku and damaged cars parked in the house.

They also inflicted cutlass wounds on some individuals.

The police have, however, not revealed the motive of the assailants.

DAILY GUIDE’s sources in Sankore said that some thugs, who brutalized residents of the area during the tenure of Eric Opoku as regional minister and head of regional security council, returned to the town to welcome the MP during the Easter festivities, which sparked reprisal attacks.
