The Director General in charge of Police Operations, COP Christian Tetteh Yohonu has ordered his men not to relent in opening fire and gunning down robbers if the need arises.
“For a long time you have not heard of this type of crime because most of these criminals were sent to prison some on remand and others being tried. This time some of these hardened criminals have found themselves back in society but I can assure you that we are going all out for them. The word is descending heavily on them. We will descend heavily on armed robbers. We have sensitized our men to deal with armed robbers. We have charged our men to deal with any armed robber who tries their patience …..We are prepared for fire for fire”, he cautioned.
He observed that the continuous gunning down of policemen in the country by the robbers is unacceptable insisting that they also have families and relations and should not allow their lives to be taken easily by the bandits with impunity.
Commenting on the killing of a policeman and the injuring of another at Lapaz on Thursday, the police chief called for the retooling of the police administration advocating that all police personnel on community patrols henceforth must be allowed to carry side arms.
“IGP has put a proposal to government so that more logistics are procured so that every policeman will have a protective gadget. I am sure government is working on it”, he revealed on Okay Fm
He reiterated that the ‘fire for fire’ policy will be adopted in dealing with the robbers who managed to escape incarceration through the Justice for all programme.
“If they think they want to joke with the security services I am using your medium to warn them we are going on all for them and will severely deal with them”, he warned.
