The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Ghana Police Service's inability to bring the killers of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale to justice.

Speaking on Masters of the Game, a show hosted by Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KDD) on Accra-based CTV on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Mr. Dwumfour accused the police of being complicit in their handling of the case, citing concerns about the quality of the investigation.

According to Mr. Dwumfour, the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a case docket to the Attorney-General's Department for prosecution, but it was deemed inadequate by the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

"The Attorney-General has made it clear that the docket the police CID submitted is not fit for purpose.

In other words, it cannot be used to prosecute the case," Mr. Dwumfour stated.

He criticized the police for failing to meet the expectations of the journalist community and for not taking the case seriously enough to produce a prosecutable docket.

Mr. Dwumfour also directed criticism at the media, accusing it of not giving sufficient attention to the unresolved murder of their colleague.

"I am surprised that the media hasn't been vocal about the Attorney-General's assessment of the police's work on this case.

Instead, the focus seems to be solely on who wins the upcoming election rather than standing up for a journalist whose rights were violated in the line of duty," he lamented.

He further hinted that information gleaned from the case file suggested possible complicity on the part of the police, a revelation he found deeply troubling.

The GJA President called for renewed efforts from both the police and the media to ensure that justice is served in the Ahmed Suale case, emphasizing that protecting journalists and holding perpetrators accountable is critical to safeguarding press freedom in Ghana.

Ahmed Suale, a member of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas' Tiger Eye PI team, was shot and killed in January 2019. His murder remains unsolved
