Police deter Ashaiman drivers from demonstrating

The Ashaiman Divisional Police on Monday intensified their patrols in the Ashaiman Municipality to deter angry drivers who ply the Ashaiman Klagon and Nungua road from embarking on a demonstration.

The security personnel who were fully armed were also positioned at various strategic points in the Municipality to ensure that angry drivers do not interrupt the business and other commercial activities in the area. The drivers are demanding an immediate completion of the Ashaiman- Nungua road.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Isaac Amoah, Secretary for Ashaiman Municipal Private Transport Operators Co-operation (AMPTOC), said his outfit was aware of the decision by the drivers to embark on a demonstration.

Mr. Amoah confirmed that he had received several complaints from the drivers on the problems confronting them and had promised to inform the appropriate quarters for the needed response.

Commenting on the nature of the road, Mr. Amoah said the engineer working on the road promised that the road works will be completed in December this year “but from what is happening on the ground, it is clear to me that works will not be completed as scheduled”.

Speaking to the GNA, some aggrieved drivers said the road has been in a very bad state for some time now and that all complaints and pleas had been ignored by the authorities.
