Police dismiss claims of insecurity in Krachi West

The Divisional Commander of the Police Service in Krachie West of the Volta Region, has dismissed claims by the local chapter of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to the extent that there is insecurity in the area.

According to Divisional Commander, Kwame Nkrumah Akumia, the teachers' claim that they have become targets by the residents in the town, cannot be true.

The local GNAT Chairman Mawusi Alexander told journalists earlier this week that, the teachers have threatened to leave the district over unexplained murders involving their members.

Latest of such incidents is the murder of one Manase Mensah, a headmaster of one of the schools in the area.

The teachers have also accused the Police and the local authorities of doing very little in addressing the problem.

However, speaking to Joy News, the Divisional Commander said the Police is currently investigating some individuals for their alleged roles in the murder of the headmaster.

He said until the latest incident, the teachers have never raised issues over their security and cannot, therefore, accuse the police of failing to guarantee their safety.

"The police is very much up and doing...we are not magicians, we get information and we try to do our best and resolve it," the District Commander said.
