Police has enough handcuffs - DSP Eklu

Accra, May 21, GNA- The Ghana Police Service Administration on Friday denied that it has run short of handcuffs and said it had enough for its operations. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, David S. Eklu, Director of Public Relations, said records available at the Stores Unit of the Police Headquarters indicated that there were enough handcuffs in stock.

The statement said handcuffs were supplied to the various Police Stations on request. It was in reaction to a newspaper publication in Accra that the Service had run out of handcuffs.

The statement said the Ashaiman Police Station, which was mentioned in the publication made a request for new handcuffs to the Police Headquarters on May 12, this year and 10 pieces were supplied to them on May 14. It said within the last four months, 308 pieces of handcuffs had been supplied to 36 Police Stations in the country on request.

The statement said: "Potential lawbreakers should, therefore, not be jubilant at the news that the Police lack handcuffs. There is enough in stock to be used in the maintenance of law and order." The Police Administration, therefore, appealed to Journalists to ensure that they thoroughly crosschecked all pieces of information before publication.
