The Ghana Police Service has initiated an investigation into the suspected lynching of a prison official in Iron City, a neighbourhood of Kasoa in Central Region.

The incident is believed to have occurred over the weekend, and the cop was accused of theft.

Some people mistook him for a thief and lynched him.

He is alleged to have assured them he was an officer and had his ID card on him, but his attackers would not listen.

The Ghana Prisons Service said that the officer’s body was discovered in a gutter at Hope of Restoration School, near Red Ball, many days after the incident.

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service Supt. Adamu Latif Abdul speaking in a media interview said: “We heard on October 1 that one of our officers was unfortunately lynched at Kasoa. That is the information we have gathered so far. The police have commenced investigations into the whole issue.

“We have gathered that he went to visit his mother, and he went out to attend to some issues and the incident happened. Days later when he didn’t return the mother reported to the police.

“The issue is in the hands of the police, and we are waiting to find out what actually happened,” he added.
