Police provide free transport for commuters during special operation in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has provided free transport services as part of efforts to facilitate the movement of commuters in Accra during its special operation which began on Saturday, September 21, 2024, aimed at enhancing security and managing traffic flow in key areas of the city.

A statement shared on the official page of the police on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, noted "Police provide transport service to facilitate movement of commuters in Accra during the period of the special police operation."

On Saturday, September 21. 2024 the police announced series of roadblocks and diversions as part of a special operation in Accra scheduled to take place from September 21 to 24, 2024.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, the following routes were affected:

1. Traffic from the Central Business District (CBD) to Independence Avenue linking up to Liberation Road will be blocked at the AU Roundabout.

2. Traffic from the AU Roundabout will be diverted to Castle Road, leading to Ridge Roundabout, Kanda Highway, and Gold House Traffic Light (Kawukudi). Alternatively, motorists can use Lokko Street to connect to Independence Avenue towards Labone and beyond.

3. From the AU Roundabout, traffic will turn right towards Second Avenue (GIJ), passing in front of the Police Headquarters to Dankwa Circle, through Cantonments Road to Ghana International School, and along Second Circular Road to Giffard Road (El-Wak traffic light) and beyond.

4. Traffic from Madina direction to Accra will terminate at 37 Roundabout and be diverted via Obasanjo Highway to Gold House Traffic Light, then onto Dr. Liman Highway (Kanda Highway), Ridge Roundabout, and Castle Road to Accra Central Business District.

5. Traffic from 37 Roundabout will be diverted to Giffard Road (Burma Camp Road) to connect with Second Circular Road in front of Ghana International School towards Cantonments Road and Dankwa Circle.

6. Alternatively, motorists can use Giffard Road towards Trade Fair and join Beach Road towards the Central Business District.

7. The Presidential Drive (behind TV3) will be blocked at Kanda Post Office Junction, with motorists directed to use Dr. Liman Highway (Kanda Highway) for alternative routes.

8. Traffic will turn right to Obasanjo Highway, Gold House Traffic Light, and Dr. Liman Highway.

9. The road in front of Prudential Bank will be blocked from Ring Road towards TV3.
