The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested members of a car snatching syndicate and retrieved four stolen vehicles.
The retrieved vehicles include Suzuki Swift taxi cab, Daewoo Matiz, Hyundai Elantra and Mercedes Benz C240.
The police had currently in their custody five members of the car snatching syndicate, including their leader, one Veron Adams, who is an ex-convict.
The others were Musban Sana aka ‘Alhassan’, Francis Quarshie, Abraham Zigah, Hajia Azumi Salisu Sana and Samuel Asante.
Adams, the ring leader, who had jumped bail at the KMA Circuit Court in a car theft case in June 2016, led the police to arrest his cohorts after he was nabbed.
The Ashanti Regional Police Crime Officer, ACP Peter Baba, said Adams was arrested at Agona on September 13, 2016 after he failed to snatch a car.
He noted that Adams hired a Daewoo Matiz taxi cab, registered AS 2703-16, to take him from Kumasi to Domeabra near Agona, in the Ashanti Region.
On their way, Adams pulled a knife on the fear-stricken driver and snatched the car, but he (Adams) was arrested after a wild chase by some people on a motorbike.
Adams and his group, who are known dangerous car-snatchers, have been linked to several high profile car snatching cases in the region in recent times.
For instance, they snatched a Suzuki Swift taxi cab, registered AS 1594-V, from its driver at gun-point at Sakra-Wonoo on August 13, this year.
This same group, on August 25, 2016, with the aid of a pistol, snatched a Daewoo Matiz taxi cab from its driver, who was taking them to Bonwire.
Adams during investigations confessed that he had snatched close to ten cars in the region, adding that he sold some of the cars for a fee to enrich himself.
