The Ghana Police Service has implemented additional measures to enforce post-election security across the country.
These steps include intelligence-led operations, increased visibility through patrols, and targeted efforts to apprehend offenders.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 9, 2024, the police acknowledged reports of isolated incidents of unrest.
"There have been limited cases of looting, vandalism, and destruction of properties in some locations across the country," part of the statement noted.
The police disclosed that 89 suspects have been arrested in connection with various offences, with 40 of them directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and property destruction.
"89 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with various offences during. 40 of them are directly connected to the acts of vandalism, looting and the destruction of properties. All the suspects will be put before the court to face justice," it noted.
It further cautioned the public against engaging in violent activities.
"We would like to caution the public to desist from such acts of violence since the perpetrators will be arrested and taken through the due process of the law," it emphasised.
The police also urged calm and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring safety and security.
"We would also like to thank all Ghanaians for their support throughout the process. We urge all stakeholders to remain calm and wish to assure you of safety and security as well as the protection of properties," it noted.
