Sunyani, Aug. 14, GNA - A team of policemen on Wednesday destroyed a 50-hectare marijuana farm at Dadom, near Wamfie in the Dormaa District of Brong Ahafo and arrested three persons, including a woman, suspected to be owners of the farm.
Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, gave the names of the suspects as Ansu Gyeabour, 52, Akosuah Asantewaa, 50 and James Takyi, 26.
He said police arrested Gyeabour and Takyi upon a tip-off and found seven wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be the stuff on Takyi upon a search.
The two led the police to the farm, Inspector Tawiah added. In another development, police at Goaso in a special operation have arrested six persons for smoking marijuana at Goaso, in the Asunafo District of the Brong Ahafo Region.
They are Yaw Nyame, Kwabena Abgozo, Ernest Oppong, Timothy, Abudu Bimoba and Augustine Tetteh.
Inspector Tawiah said Nyame who resisted arrest, attacked a senior police officer and attempted to snatch a pistol from him, adding that "in an ensuing struggle the pistol went off and hit the suspect". He said Nyame was sent to the Roman Catholic Hospital at Hwidiem from where he was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, while the five other suspects have been placed in custody. The Police PRO said 41 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, 107 wrappers of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine and 57,000 cedis were found in their possession.
