Koforidua, April 21, GNA - The Ghana Police Service has promised to ensure a very serene and peaceful Easter this year, which would be devoid of crimes and accidents.
At a press conference held by the Eastern Regional Police Service, in Koforidua, on Thursday, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, the Regional Commander, outlined the plans of the Service before, during and after the Easter celebrations. He said the Police Service had organized a swoop on criminal hideouts where tent city concepts had already been put in place to arrest criminals.
He indicated that snap checks mechanisms, which were meant to clamp down on criminals, especially armed robbers and violent criminals, has been in place.
ACP Gyamera-Yeboah said the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) personnel had been dispatched to monitor the roads to ensure safety on the highways, by checking over-speeding. He disclosed that 50 Police Personnel from the Regional Headquarters would assist the Nkawkaw command and also help to intensify day and night patrols at lorry parks and markets during the Easter celebrations.
"Three hundred more men will be on duty at the Easter grounds to ensure peace in the area." He said, even after the Easter celebration, the Police Service was going to put personnel on the highways to check on drivers to ensure discipline.
"MTTU personnel will still be on the Highways to check on drivers to ensure discipline", he emphasized. He wished the nation a happy Easter celebrations and cautioned all to observe a peaceful Easter.
