A policeman who was providing escort services to a passenger bus has been shot after his AK47 assault rifle failed while being attacked by suspected armed robbers.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that Constable Abdul Karim Yusif was escorting a Sang-Yong minibus with passengers on board from Kumasi to Atebubu in the Bono East Region at about 1 am on Thursday, November 19, 2024.

On reaching a section of the road at Patuda near Atebubu, they were attacked by armed robbers amidst firing.

Still, in an attempt to return fire, the weapon of the armed policeman failed to function and in the process, the armed robbers shot him and the driver.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that other passengers onboard the vehicle, however, escaped unhurt.

The injured were immediately rushed to the Atebubu Government Hospital but the policeman was later referred to the Wenchi Hospital for further treatment.
