Lance Corporal Vincent Agyapong is currently nursing a life-threatening injury after being shot at close range by suspected armed robbers who attacked two Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses at Chintilung a farming community near Bunkpurugu in the Bunkprugu District of the Northern Region.

According to police who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com, the victim with service number 47372 was on board one of the two buses bound for Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region when their vehicle was attacked.

MyNewsGh.com gathered that the two vehicles with registration numbers GR 2016-U and GW 236-Z were all loaded with passengers from Bunkpurugu destined for Tamale and Bolgatanga respectively.

Police account reveals that the vehicles which were following each other on reaching a section of the road at Chintilung community, were stopped by the armed men but the one in which the cop was onboard defied and drove off.

The armed robbers started firing into the bus and the policeman was hit in the ankle.

They were reported to have robbed occupants of the Tamale bus and took an unspecified amount of them after which they bolted.

It is gathered that Lance Corporal Vincent Agyapong was rushed to the Binde Hospital but later referred to the Bawku Hospital where he is said to be on admission.

Meanwhile, police disclosed to MyNewsGh.com that they retrieved four empty shells and two live AK 47 ammunition at the scene of the incident though no arrest has been made.
