Polio Immunisation Programme

The Ga District Health Services Unit has engaged one thousand and 19 trained volunteers to assist health personnel to undertake this year's national Polio immunisation programme which starts on Saturday. The volunteers will be deployed in 330 villages and Communities in the District. This was disclosed by the District Director of Health Services, Dr.. Ernestina Mensah-Qainoo at Amasaman. She said 51 thousand children between zero and five years old will be immunised in the District. Dr.. Mensah-Quainoo said to achieve about 100 per cent coverage, the District Planning Committee has mapped out strategies to surmount some of the logistics problems that were encountered during last year's immunisation exercise. Mobile immunisation units will be deployed in very inaccessible areas. Public education campaigns have also been mounted for the past one month to sensitise the public on the importance of the immunisation exercise. The Chief of Pokuase, Nii Otto Kwame who is the chairman of Ga District Polio Immunisatiion Planning Committee disclosed that about 22 million cedis will be required for the first phase of the exercise. He appealed to individuals, NGOS AND TRANSPORT OPERATORS TO ASSIST THE DISTRICT with logistics support to enhance the success of the immunisation exercise. End
