Politics is not a war - Appiah

Kpone (GAR)), Nov. 28, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Kpone-Katamanso, Mr. Solomon Tettey Appiah, has stated that politics must be practiced with patience and persuasion and not "A war".

Messages must be packaged to help the electorate to make informed decisions, he told a rally at the Light Industrial Area (Free Zone Enclave) at Kpone, near Tema at the weekend.

Mr. Appiah called on political party activists to go about their campaigns devoid violence, insults and intimidation and to ensure fairness, decency and respect for their opponents for a successful and peaceful in the December 2004 elections.

He asked the electorate to return President Kufuor and to vote for the NPP for the continuation of the country's development. Mr. Appiah apologised for "any toe that I might have stepped on" during the primaries and called on NPP supporters to put the interest of the party first before all other considerations.

He said when elected to represent the people he would work for the establishment of technical institute for the youth to learn vocational skills needed for employment in the free zone enclave.

The NPP parliamentary candidate also promised to ensure a proper layout for the area and the construction of roads to link other towns and villages to promote trade.

Earlier, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and the Modernisation of the Capital City, had led a delegation including Mr John Opo Tetteh, Organiser and Madam Winnie Amankwah Tetteh, Women's Organiser to call on the heads and members of the 13 royal houses in the area.

The delegation wished them good health and prosperity in the coming year and introduced the parliamentary candidate to them.
